Garador Garage Side Door Measuring Guide
Garage Side Door
Measuring Guide
Follow this guide before configuring your Garador Garage Side Door. Accurate structural opening measurements are essential because the door is supplied factory pre-framed and designed to fit between the brickwork.
Measure the structural opening — not an existing door.
Measure from finished brickwork to finished brickwork and from the finished floor to the underside of the structural lintel. Garador's published overall frame dimensions do not include fitting clearance, so do not simply order a frame exactly the same size as the structural opening.
Measure Your
Opening.
Take every measurement in millimetres. Measure the opening in several positions because brickwork and floors are not always perfectly level or square.
Opening Width
Measure horizontally from finished brickwork to finished brickwork at the top, centre and bottom of the opening. Record the smallest measurement.
Opening Height
Measure vertically from the finished floor level to the underside of the lintel at the left, centre and right of the opening. Record the smallest measurement.
Opening Is Square
Measure diagonally from opposite corners. A significant difference between the two diagonal measurements can indicate that the opening is out of square.
Floor & Surrounding Area
Make sure the finished floor is level and check that the brick reveals and lintel provide a suitable surface for fixing the factory-preframed door.
Opening Size vs
Frame Size.
This is the most important distinction when configuring a Garador Garage Side Door.
Order using the overall frame size.
Garador Garage Side Doors arrive with their steel frame already assembled around the door leaf. The overall frame therefore needs to fit comfortably inside your structural opening.
Published Garador
Frame Sizes.
The configurator uses these published Garage Side Door sizes. The overall frame dimensions are the key dimensions to compare against your structural opening.

Choose Your
Door Handing.
Garador determines garage side-door handing when viewed from outside the garage. Make sure you select the correct hinge side before ordering.
Right-Hand Hinged
Viewed from outside, the hinges are on the right and the handle is on the left. This is Garador's standard Garage Side Door handing.
Left-Hand Hinged
Viewed from outside, the hinges are on the left and the handle is on the right. Choose this option where the surrounding wall, driveway or access route makes left-hand hinging more practical.
Garage Side Doors open outwards.
Make sure there is enough clear space outside the opening for the door leaf to open fully without striking walls, gates, bins, vehicles, steps or other obstructions.
Remember the Frame
Takes Up Space.
The usable walk-through opening is smaller than the structural opening because the factory frame occupies part of the width and height.
Allow for the finished clear passage.
Garador states that the nominal clear passage for a Garage Side Door is approximately 74 mm less than the opening width and 125 mm less than the opening height.
Final Measurement
Checklist.
Check these points before submitting your configured Garage Side Door order.
Check the opening width and height in several positions and work from the smallest reliable measurement.
Measure from the finished floor level and make sure it is level across the complete doorway.
Decide which side the hinges and handle need to be on when viewed from outside.
Make sure the opening door will not clash with walls, vehicles, steps or other external obstructions.
