Garador Side-Hinged Garage Door Measuring Guide
Measure Twice.
Order Once.
Getting the measurements right is one of the most important parts of ordering your Garador Side-Hinged garage door.
This guide explains what to measure, how to check your opening and what to confirm before selecting an overall factory-frame size in our configurator.
Your garage opening is not necessarily the size you should order.
Garador Side-Hinged doors are supplied as a complete factory-prepared door and frame assembly. The sizes shown in our configurator refer to the overall frame dimensions.
Always compare the available overall frame dimensions with your actual structural opening and allow the appropriate fitting clearance before placing your order.
What You'll Need.
Take your time and record every measurement in millimetres. Garage openings are often slightly uneven, so never rely on just one width or height measurement.
Four Essential Checks.
Start with the structural opening, then check the surrounding area and floor before selecting your Side-Hinged door.
Opening Width
Measure from brickwork to brickwork across the opening at the top, centre and bottom.
Record the smallest measurement.Opening Height
Measure from the finished floor level to the underside of the structural opening on the left, centre and right.
Record the smallest measurement.Headroom
Check the area immediately above the opening for brickwork, pipes, lights, fascias or other obstructions which could interfere with installation.
Side & External Clearance
Check the areas around both sides of the opening and, importantly, the space directly outside the garage.
Both Side-Hinged leaves open outwards.Take Three Measurements.
Brick openings can taper, floors can rise and lintels may not be perfectly level. Taking measurements at several points helps prevent choosing a frame that will not fit.
Measure Top
Measure Middle
Measure Bottom
Measure Left
Measure Centre
Measure Right
This prevents a narrower or lower section of the opening from being overlooked.
A Level Finished Floor Matters.
Measure from the final finished floor level — not from temporary flooring, unfinished concrete or a surface that will later be raised.
Garador Side-Hinged doors use locking hardware at the base of the door set, so the floor needs to be finished and suitably level before installation.
Leave Room for the Door Leaves.
Unlike an Up & Over door, both Side-Hinged leaves swing outwards from the garage opening.
Before ordering, check that vehicles, boundary walls, steps, pillars, drains, slopes and other obstacles will not prevent either leaf from opening fully.
Opening Size vs.
Overall Frame Size.
This is the most important distinction to understand before using the Side-Hinged configurator.
Structural Opening
The clear brick-to-brick width and finished-floor-to-lintel height available at your garage.
Overall Frame Size
The complete external dimensions of the Garador factory-prepared frame and door assembly shown in our configurator.
Do not simply enter your brick opening dimensions as your door size. Confirm that the selected overall frame will fit within your structural opening with the necessary installation clearance.
Choose the Right Door Split.
Once the opening dimensions are confirmed, think about how you intend to use the garage day to day.
50 / 50
Two approximately equal-width leaves for a balanced, symmetrical appearance.
1/3 / 2/3
A smaller dedicated leading leaf makes frequent pedestrian access particularly convenient.
70 / 30
Available only on compatible Timber designs and sizes shown by our configurator.
