Garador Roller Garage Door Measuring Guide
Roller Garage Door
Measuring Guide
Correct measurements are essential when ordering a Garador Roller garage door. Before configuring your door, measure the structural opening carefully and check the available space above and beside the opening for the roller box and guide rails.
Opening Width
Measure brick-to-brick at the top, centre and bottom of the opening and record the smallest measurement.
Opening Height
Measure from the finished floor to the underside of the lintel at several points.
Headroom
Measure the clear wall space above the opening. This determines whether the roller box can be accommodated.
Sideroom
Measure the clear wall area to the left and right of the opening for the guide rails.
Fitting Position
Decide whether the door will be fitted behind the opening or between the brickwork.
Measure the structural opening.
Take all measurements in millimetres. Openings are rarely perfectly square, so measure each dimension in several places and use the smallest reliable measurement.
Opening Width
Measure the structural opening width at the top, centre and bottom. Record the smallest measurement.
Opening Height
Measure from finished floor level to the underside of the lintel at the left, centre and right.
Available Headroom
Measure from the underside of the lintel to the ceiling or first obstruction above the opening.
Sideroom
Measure the flat wall space to both sides of the opening. This is where the guide rails are fixed on a behind-opening installation.
Choose where the door will sit.
Garador Roller doors can normally be installed behind the opening or between the brickwork. The fitting position changes how much wall space is required and how much of the opening remains available when the door is open.
Behind the Opening
The guide rails and roller box are installed on the inside face of the garage wall, behind the structural opening.
- Maximises the available drive-through opening.
- Requires sufficient wall space beside the opening.
- Requires clear headroom above the opening.
- The opening width and height generally form the ordering size.
Between the Opening
The roller door assembly is installed within the structural opening itself where sufficient wall space is not available behind the brickwork.
- Useful where there is limited sideroom inside the garage.
- Guide rails occupy part of the structural opening.
- A fascia or additional finishing panel may be required.
- Clear drive-through width can be reduced compared with a behind-opening installation.
Check the space above the opening.
The roller curtain wraps around a barrel inside a housing above the opening. The amount of headroom required depends on the selected Garador Roller model and door height.
| RANGE | DOOR HEIGHT | APPROX. BOX / HEADROOM | NOTES |
|---|---|---|---|
| GaraGlide | Up to 2300mm | 290mm | Standard smaller roller housing. |
| GaraGlide | Above 2300mm | 335mm | Larger housing required for taller doors. |
| GaraRoll | Depends on specification | Typically 290–335mm | Check selected door height and fitting arrangement. |
| GaraCompact | Compatible GaraCompact sizes | 205mm | Designed specifically for garages with restricted headroom. |
Measure to the lowest obstruction.
Do not measure only to the ceiling. Pipes, beams, lights, shelving or other obstructions above the opening can prevent the roller box from fitting. Measure the clear uninterrupted wall space available above the opening.
Allow enough room for the guide rails.
Roller doors travel vertically through guide rails fixed to each side of the opening. The required guide width depends on the selected product and door width.
| PRODUCT | DOOR WIDTH | GUIDE RAIL | TOTAL SIDE SPACE FOR BEHIND-OPENING FIT |
|---|---|---|---|
| GaraGlide | Up to 3000mm | 75mm each side | Opening width + approximately 150mm |
| GaraGlide | Above 3000mm | 105mm each side | Opening width + approximately 210mm |
| GaraRoll | Selected GaraRoll sizes | Allow at least 110mm each side | Check both sides are flat and unobstructed. |
| GaraCompact | Selected GaraCompact sizes | Compact guide system | Suitable for behind or between-opening fitting. |
Check the opening and floor.
Good measurements are only useful if the opening is suitable for installation. Check the surrounding brickwork, floor and internal garage area before ordering.
Use the smallest width and height measurement.
Measure from the final finished floor level.
The wall areas used for guides must be flat and suitable for secure fixing.
Ensure the roller box is clear of beams, pipes and lights.
Confirm the measurements for your selected Roller model.
GaraRoll, GaraGlide and GaraCompact use different guide, housing and size arrangements. Do not assume measurements suitable for one model automatically suit another. Enter your structural opening dimensions accurately in the configurator and check the recommended fitting arrangement before placing your order.
Configure your Garador Roller door.
Enter your opening dimensions and choose between GaraRoll, GaraGlide and GaraCompact. The configurator will guide you through the compatible finish, fitting and option choices.
This guide is intended to help customers take preliminary measurements for Garador Roller garage doors. Product dimensions, guide sizes and fitting requirements vary by range and specification. Where there is any doubt, have the opening checked by a competent garage-door installer before ordering.
